Most Ixoras will flower better in full sun, but they can also take dappled shade. They need regular moisture and mulch. In our alkaline soil, they also thrive on regular fertilizer that includes chelated iron. In case of a cold spell, they may lose their leaves, but they are usually not seriously damaged. Some ixora types grow to 10-15 feet tall and 4-10 feet wide when unpruned, but they can handle shearing to maintain them as a smaller hedge. However, it should be mentioned that constant shearing will reduce ixora's flower display. Smaller forms which only reach 4-6 feet are available, as well as petite cultivars.
