The Formosa Azalea, while being a rugged variety and capable of handling full sun, can also manage a planting location in slight shade. This shrub does require well draining soil with some acidity. Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and wide, Red Formosa Azalea is most useful as a natural hedge or in small to large groupings in landscape borders. The plants perform exceptionally well under tall pine trees.
