Choose a sunny spot for yaupon holly; though it can grow in full shade, it will produce fewer of its signature, colorful berries. Prepare moist but well-draining soil, though this plant is tolerant of most soil types. Water regularly, though yaupon holly also can withstand some drought. Large-growing yaupon hollies can grow to be between 15 and 25 feet tall and will have a spread of about the same width. In the landscape, these evergreen beauties take about ten years to develop the distinctive vase shape they are known for.
